Are you considering getting married in Vienna and wondering which wedding venue or location to choose? Yes, finding a suitable wedding venue in Vienna feels like a real Herculean task. There are so many great locations! Finding the right one is definitely a challenge. 

On wedding portals, there are endless places that come into question for your special day and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the multitude of possibilities. Wedding planning should be a source of joy, not frustration!

I’ve put together a few questions that will make the process easier and that you can ask yourself in advance. I also asked our Vienna foreign correspondent and gourmet Lisa what her tips for wedding locations in Vienna are. I’m covering a small fraction of the many enchanting places that exist in Vienna to (hopefully) experience one of the most beautiful days in your life.

In addition to the classic Viennese locations that I like and have already had good experiences with, I’ve also added more alternative wedding venues to the list. I am not a wedding planner, but I am Viennese — so here are my recommendations!

Where To Start When Planning A Wedding In Vienna

Ask yourself in advance:

• Large or small wedding? How many people will be celebrating?
• Are you dreaming of something elegant and classic or casual and cosy? Of course, one does not necessarily exclude the other 🙂
• A rich buffet or meals served to the table?
• Registry office, free wedding ceremony, church wedding and subsequent celebration at two different locations … or all in one place? 

Considering these questions in advance already limits the search a little.

The Best Wedding Venues In Vienna 

Civil weddings can take place in wedding halls of the Vienna registry office, and in locations that belong to dream wedding venues. 

Registrar’s offices include the registrar’s office Wien Zentrum, Landstraße, Favoriten, Hietzing, Ottakring, Brigittenau, Floridsdorf, and Donaustadt. 

Less official are wedding venues that belong to the dream wedding venues (see the list here). I’ve picked out a few delicacies for you from the classics to more alternative, charming budget locations. 

Classic Wedding Venues In Vienna

Let’s start with the classic postcard Vienna. In the first district we find, of course, the imperial, magnificent, imperial, history-bearing locations. Many well-known cafés and hotels are part of this. For example, the Grand Hotel, the Haas Haus or the Hotel Sacher. 

I was very surprised at all the places in Vienna where you can get married! For example, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Austrian National Library are not to be missed.

Then you have the Mozart House, the Vienna City Hall, the Freyung in the Daun-Kinsky Palace, the Spanish Riding School, and the Butterfly House in the Burggarten. You also can’t skip the Salzgries and the Summer Stage which offers their premises for weddings. The choices are endless!

Princely, Imperial Vienna Wedding Venues

For more glamorous, imperial fairytale weddings á la Sissi — perhaps even a palace? — you have the Belvedere Palace, Palais Auersberg, Lusthaus, Schönbrunn Palace, Kaiserlodge Freudenau and the historic palace in the Augarten. Imperial glamour also is found at the Albertina. The Garden Palace Liechtenstein has an incredibly beautiful park. Vienna is a very princely place to celebrate!

For those who like it a bit more modern and hip, weddings can also be held in the Museumsquartier.  

But, apart from the classic, old Viennese First District locations. Where can I find charming, nice, affordable places to celebrate a wedding in a nice ambience? We have compiled a list for you below. 

Alternative Wedding Venues In Vienna

• Winery am Reisenberg
  A charming, down-to-earth and family-friendly place with a direct view of the vineyards and the city of Vienna from the garden. 
• Piaristenkeller
  Rustic and classic, this offers a wide variety of wedding packages. 
• Summerstage
  A casual location with a cosy bar not only for after-work drinks but also for weddings! Summerstage is youthful, summery, and hip.
• Gartenschank in the old barn
  A relaxed setting for a wine tavern.
• Concordia Schlössl
  This summer residence has a very festive ambience, great vibes. and is really nice!

• Heurigenschenke “Zur Wildsau” (The Wild Sow)
  A classic Heuriger right at the top of the Lainzer Tiergarten.
• Häuserl am Stoa
  A nice and rustic location, this is an atypical wedding location which is exactly what makes it so appealing.
• La Creperie
  Located on the Old Danube, this offers a very idyllic setting. You almost forget you’re in Vienna!
  

Small Wedding Venues in Vienna

Last, but not least, recommendations from our Vienna insider Lena with locations that are suitable for smaller celebrations:

• Sirbu
  A Heuriger where you can see views over Vienna. Only open in summer. 
• Skopik & Lohn
  Located in the 2nd district, this is a rather upmarket place with super good food.
• Josefinenhütte am Kahlenberg
  Rustic and in the middle of nature, this is super suitable for weddings with families and children.

Choosing a wedding venue in Vienna is not that easy! It’s an agony of choice, that’s how it could be described. There is a truly outstanding selection of wedding venues, although this is only a small sample of the possibilities.
