Why Have A Wedding In The Mountains: Lech Am Arlberg, Austria

Having a wedding in the mountains – in a postcard panorama – is particularly idyllic. Lech am Arlberg, Austria is a picturesque alpine village and one of my favourite places to get married in the mountains.

The magnificent mountain scenery attracts international wedding couples in winter as well as in summer. As a wedding photographer who loves eye candy and special culinary delights, I have a great affection for beautiful landscapes like those of the Arlberg.

Because I love Arlberg for weddings, in this blog I’m covering the many reasons why a wedding in Lech am Arlberg is so remarkable.

1. Getting Married In The Mountains: The Panorama!

The mountain panorama alone would be reason enough for me to get married here. In good weather, Lech shows its friendly, romantic side — lush green meadows in summer and snowy white mountains in winter.

I also find the alpine scenery very exciting in bad weather — the cloudy atmosphere makes the mountains look particularly threatening. A wedding in the mountains does a lot for the photos, whether it’s photos taken in the snow or on green flower meadows. Both look great from a wedding photographer’s point of view!

2. Civil Marriage Is Possible In Many Places

Another special feature of Lech is that official civil weddings do not have to take place in the registry office. It is possible, for example, to get married up in the mountains directly in nature. Or on the terrace with a wonderful view of the mountains (on the Golden Mountain for example).

3. You Can Take A Ski Lift To Your Wedding Celebration

You can take a gondola up to Oberlech, where the view is even better. The Schlegelkopf and the Kriegeralp are also perfect for weddings. These can be reached by chairlift. You can officially get married there in different locations by the registrar.

4. There Are Unique Locations for Wedding Ceremonies in Vorarlberg

Especially in Vorarlberg, it is often not possible to get married outside the registry office. Lech is therefore an exception for civil weddings and offers really good alternatives for special wedding locations in the Vorarlberg region. More information on civil weddings in the mountains can be found here.

5. There’s A Stunning Choice of Wedding Venues In The Mountains

I have photographed weddings in the middle of the Kriegeralpe where we had a feast in the Wolf, a unique, modern hotel in Lech am Arlberg that’s great for weddings and is also directly on the mountain.

If you’re looking for a sunny terrace vibe, you can have your wedding celebration at the Goldener Berg or the Rudalpe — both are perfect for weddings. Or the garden and domed hall of the Hotel Post. There is enough space to celebrate in all locations.

6. Tons of Ceremony Possibilities

If you want a church wedding, the old parish church is ideal. For freelance wedding ceremonies, check out the Lecher Wedding Portal or the recommendations for freelance wedding speakers on Laendle Wedding

7. It Has The Best Hotels, Restaurants & Excellent Hospitality

Lech is the place to be if you want to feel like a snow or meadow queen. Lech also features the best collection of hotels and restaurants, which are all extremely accommodating and friendly. Most hotels, guesthouses, and locations can often be reached on foot or by gondola.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and you can really feel at home, especially in summer. The staff and hotel owners always do their best to fulfil their guests’ wishes. And, of course, you’ll find the best hotels in Lech including the Aurelio, Hotel Arlberg, Sonnenburg, Kristiana, Post, Krone or Burg Vital

8. You Can Celebrate Over Several Days

What I find particularly beautiful about weddings in Lech is that they tend to last several days. Often the wedding party comes together the evening before for a get-together.

You can enjoy yourself in a relaxed atmosphere. The bride and groom welcome their guests, and they enjoy tasty cocktails and fine here for example. This is a great way to get in the mood for the wedding in a relaxed atmosphere and to get to know each other.

Pro tip: Don’t overdo it with the celebrations at the get-together! The big party mood should last until the wedding day. Don’t let half the party hang around hungover on the wedding day. But everyone can organise it however he or she wants.

9. You Can Plan A Dreamy Winter Wedding

I always find a wedding in winter special. There’s something about coming from outside, wrapped up thickly, into the warmth of a cosy parlour and saying ‘I do’ in a festive location, followed by a toast on the sun terrace in a skiing costume. You can get inspired by this winter wedding in Switzerland here. A beautiful wedding in the snow in absolute empress weather.

I’m also a fanatical snowboarder myself. So when it’s time for a round of skiing at the wedding, I’m always up for it. So if you are still looking for the right wedding photographer for a winter wedding, please get in touch with me!

Why Getting Married In Lech Is A Great Idea

As a professional wedding photographer, the most compelling reasons to plan a mountain destination wedding are:

  • Photo-wise, it’s top-notch! The backdrops in the mountains are simply breathtaking.
  • It’s officially allowed to get married outside the registry office under the open sky, in a hotel, or cosy hut terraces.
  • The hotels in Lech are centred around exclusivity and the best hospitality.
  • The setting lends itself well to weddings lasting several days with plenty to do — nature, wellness, and celebrations.
  • Winter weddings are especially stunning!
